I WAS ALWAYS FASCINATED WITH THESE LITTLE GUYS AS A CHILD, AND GAVE MYSELF A PROJECT ABOUT 4 YEARS AGO TO PHOTOGRAPH THEM! I NEVER REALIZED THERE WERE OTHER SPECIES IN THE MANTIS FAMILY THAT ARE ALSO STUNNING TO LOOK AT! THIS IS A GREAT CLOSEUP MACRO AND THE DETAIL IS AMAZING! IF YOU WANT TO SEE SOME BEAUTIFUL ONE'S GO TO THE SITE "mantisplace.com", YOU WILL BE AMAZED! LES (F/V)

Jim Thompson replied:

Thank you Les. I will certainly do that. If you take a closer look at my little portfolio here, which is a very small part of the total, I am a photo opportunist I will shoot just about anything that catches my eye including insects of course. I am adding a few images pretty much on a daily basis. This mantis was first discovered by my wife in a bunch of flowering chives. The shots I posted were hand held in that location. She (the mantis, not my wife) eventually moved to the underside of the top of a seldom used dog house where I set up my tripod. In the end I liked the hand held shots better. I used a Nikon D700 with a Nikkor 105mm f/2.8 micro lens, and cleaned them up in DxO Optics Pro and Photoshop CS6.
