Description
Craigdarroch Castle ws built by the Dunsmuir family of Canada in the late 19th Century. It was occupied in 1890. the family had coal mining interests in Canada and offices in San Francisco. In 1888 Alex Dunsmuir, second son of British Coal Baron Robert Dunsmuir traveled through the California town that now bears his family name. He was so enchanted by the beauty of the area that he offered to donate a fountain to the town. The fountain was built and the town was renamed Dunsnuir in his honor.
